Lower Elementary
In multi-aged classes with children aged 6-9, the Montessori approach offers a comprehensive curriculum. Grand in scale ("cosmic" is the Montessori term!), the learning harnesses the child's natural interests and builds units of study based around historical and scientific themes. We differentiate learning experiences to meet the needs of the children we serve, while meeting the local and state standards.
Upper Elementary
The 9-12 year old child, has mastered the basics. The task for these students is to go deeper and to discover interrelatedness. The teacher or guide gives lessons which are a springboard to meaningful work. Keeping in mind local standards, the student is invited to conduct experiments, complete research and share knowledge with the community. The student works with the adult to set goals and demonstrate productivity.
